EMERGENCE

"Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed"
 Francis Bacon, Novum Organum

Role Description

By now, you will have decided which Role you wish to develop further, and will need to fill out a Role Description Sheet. Role Description does not end with the Character Creation process, but continues while you participate in the Story. In fact, a great character may begin with but the sketchiest of details, and eventually become a fully fledged antagonist, with an in-depth history and rich personality. You need just enough for the Director to incorporate you into the Story, and to make assumptions about what your character can and cannot do. But beware, that incomplete descriptions of a favourite Role may mean some of its unique characteristics are forgotten. The Role Description Sheet is there to summarize a Role, so it can effectively be played at some later date, and/or some other Player.

Player, Setting, Creator

List your name, a label for the Setting your character adventures in, and give credit to those who created the story/setting/character. Under player name, you may wish to nominate (in brackets) a person to play in your place if you can't make a game session. By default, always list the Director under creator, and if you were not the sole creator of the character, give credit where credit is due.

Role

This is the part you are going to play. It is a character description similar to what you may find at the beginning of a theatrical script. Include name, occupation, nationality, race... any details which could be used to identify your character.

Example

Katherine- a medium and witch- a forlorn young woman. She is a tall woman with deep dark sorrowful eyes, even when she smiles- not immediately beautiful, but seems calming and cool like the shade under a tree.

Motive

The goals and motivations of your character, particularly those which may set them on a path of adventure and intrigue, are important to playing a Role properly. The description should help someone understand what drives your character, so that they could have a good chance to take up the role and portray it with consistency and flavour. It is also useful if you have not portrayed this character for a while, or the Director needs to make decisions about your character's actions when you are absent from the Game.

Example

Strives to be someone who could be respected and loved; to find a use for her wyrd powers. She is driven to reduce the sadness of others.

Life Path

The Life Path is your character's story: the events leading up to the present, shaping your life, your personality. Identify any recurring themes, and any hints to your character's destiny. Even include a description of 'where' in life you are now, and where you think the character is heading. This is a only a summary of the character's history. A more detail history could be written on a different page.

Example

Outcast, Abandoned, Hung with Gypsies. Learnt witchcraft, Control of Spirits which plague her. Now, wanders using powers for good. Keeps loosing loved ones. People fear her. Will she find acceptance, joy and love?
