What is Creative Refocussing?

Creative Refocussing (‘CR’) is based upon the idea that the meaning and purpose of human life is, to learn to love. That Love constitutes our very Creative Essence and our life's task consists in discarding the habitual ego mask we take to be 'me' and identify with this our true nature, in which we are all one.

The Creative Refocussing process is designed to clear the way for this lifelong task. It is a process of intensive enquiry and mental reorientation which profoundly affects and benefits our well-being on all levels. It utilises elements of investigation, visualisation, breathing, meditation, dance, music and laughter to combine into a powerful Initiation Ritual. An initiation into being who we are in truth, beyond the outward ‘personality’ and habitual defensive attitudes we’ve come to adopt in years of dealing - or not dealing - with what we see as our ‘problems'.

To begin with, we uncover our ancient, emotionally charged beliefs and habitual attitudes. Our unconscious habit of applying these behaviour and thought patterns from the past to our present-day situation - in which we tend to blame our problems on outside forces if not other people - has stopped us from really growing up. It still continues to keep us from utilising our inherent creativity and love energy. Now we investigate these limiting patterns with humour and compassion, thus preparing the way for dissociating from them in love, opening up to the vast potential in ourselves they had been blocking. This also enables us to re-establish our connection with the Universal Creative Principle of Love and Truth. It thus prepares the way for living a truly meaningful, much more joyous, fulfilled and 'spiritual’ life.

The CR process involves four major steps.

1. Becoming Clear

Here we investigate the ways in which we habitually limit ourselves due to addictively following certain concepts we formed in early childhood. We look into their emotional causes and acknowledge clearly what they are.

2. Self-responsible Acknowledgement

With this step we acknowledge our own full responsibility for the limiting personality (the ‘ego’) we have created on the basis of our emotionally charged thought patterns. In clearly naming this ego-personality we attain a concise diagnosis of the root cause of most of our problems. By ‘owning’ these we also gain the power to effectively dis-own them. In this way, 'problems' turn into challenges to our power to effect change.

3. Dying ‘as’ Ego and Rebirth into our Truth

With this third step we actually start making use of our newly gained power - often in ways which had formerly seemed totally beyond our reach. In for once disregarding our limiting beliefs (such as: "I’m unlovable" or: "Nothing works for me", or: "Life is a constant struggle") and for the first time in full awareness experiencing: "It works! I am lovable - I can do things right - Life can be fun!" etc., we reach the decisive turning point - beyond which nothing needs to be anymore as it always was in the past:

The Reversal from Helpless Victim into Responsible Creator. The Re-awakening to Love.

At this point we also begin to experience our innermost connectedness to the Higher Principle of Love and Truth, as well as uncovering positive attributes and abilities in ourselves which before we never believed we possessed.

4. The Vision of Love

Not only we ourselves but all others, too, now appear in a new light. Comprehensive Forgiveness is practised as the way out of the victim state - the way which finally brings liberation from the burdens we’ve been carrying from our past.

In Creative Refocussing we seek to apply certain principles set out in A Course in Miracles. In the longer intensives we frequently combine the process with Rebirthing, a powerful breathing technique which facilitates access to the deeper levels of our being.
