Heller Delta S4 Rally 1/43 By Peter Merrick IPMS QLD Not long ago, I started building 1/43 cars by pure accident and ended up loving it! So trawling the local hobby shops came up with this little gem of a classic rally car. I only remember this car from watching rally's on tele when I was younger and when I found this thought I would love to make it, and at $8 was OK to tak a risk on. I got the kit home, and as is my thing, ripped open the kit and was quite impressed with the moulding and crispness of the parts. They are moulded very well with little or no flash evident on the parts. Firstly I sprayed all the interior, seats, and wheels black with a bit of dark gray to lighten it slightly. To be honest there's not much to this kit and before I knew it the main chassis and wheels were all together. The seat belts were painted gold and the engine bay was highlighted in silver (there is a small relief of an engine here which if detailed the right way looks good through the rear window). Next the few parts on the body went together, although I left off the clear bits until after painting. The colour scheme suggested I thought would look dull, but not having anything else to go on decided on that. Firstly I sprayed the lightened black again all over the car. Once this had dried, to ease masking , I sprayed a light coat of Future (Super Shine here in Aus) and let this dry. Next I masked out the bits that were going to be gold (I use acrylics so this took about 1.5 hrs to paint all up at the most). Getting the gold areas right took time and even now after finishing I'm still not quite happy with it. Once dry Super Shine again was sprayed in light coats to give a nice glossy finish. The clear parts were next to be added and these went in nicely (1 for the body glass and 2 for the headlights). I find decaling always the best bit, and in this case was no exception. They went on beautifully with no filming and reacted well to a bit of solvent (I use white vinegar which seems to do pretty well). A further light mist of gloss and the bodywork was done. Next came the only hassle of the kit. The body would not site properly on the chassis and I ended leaving it free so that I could take it off if needed, but everytime I move it I have to resettle the body properly. Normally I build armour and aircraft, but these little 1/43 kits have got me hooked. They are such little jewels. If I can find more I will certainly build them, especially if I can find some with even more details. Well recommended as a change and for all modellers.
