Button Sample Book "British Sword Mark"
These are photos of a Sample book which belongs to a Button Bud of mine.
It was found at a Garbage Dump in a Sydney Suburb in the 1950s.!

The cover shows both the Crossed Sword Trade Mark of British Sword Make, and the "Dome Mark" Trade Mark.
I have both these marks in my collection as backmarks on Vegetable Ivory Buttons.
At present there are 3 pages in the book, though it is possible that there were once more. Some buttons are missing from each page.

The first page features pearl and glass set in metal, lithographs and design under glass buttons. Some close up shots appear below.

Close up of lithographs Swimming (amazing!), Hunting and golf. The top of the card says "Price per gross" - that's 30 shillings for 144 of these wonderful buttons! What about the bi plane - has anyone seen that before. I expect it was the very latest thing when the buttons were made, so I'm guessing the date of the book is early 1900s.

Now for page 2!

This page contains gemstone buttons, enamels , pearl and glass set in metal.
The gemstone buttons are fascinating - they are balls with plate and loops
shanks, and many would be quite difficult to distinguish from similar glass
buttons:

Only 2 enamels remain.

Some of the lovely pearls - 2 have coral centres.
Some set in metal examples.
Page 3 will be added some time soon. This page contains a big variety of glass buttons.
